The New Animal Economy
Melvor Idle 2 introduces a completely new economic axis centered around wildlife and livestock: Hunting and Ranching. In the original game, leather and animal materials were largely restricted to tedious low-level monster combat grinding or basic thieving drops. In the sequel, these materials have been elevated into a deep, dedicated ecosystem that bridges wilderness gathering with artisan production.
Together, Hunting and Ranching provide the foundational components required for the new Beastcrafting Guide trade skill, high-level cooking feasts, and specialized summoning tablets. Understanding how these two sister skills interact with the broader All Skills Guide is critical for mid-game account progression.

Hunting: Active Wilderness Tracking
Hunting operates as an active gathering skill. When you assign your character to Hunt, you select a specific wilderness zone and quarry. Action timers vary depending on the creature's stealth and agility, and each successful action yields primary pelts, secondary bones, and rare trophy drops.
Hunting Progression Zones

Verdant Meadows (Levels 1–25):

Ranching: Passive Animal Husbandry
While Hunting requires active character focus, Ranching operates completely passively in the background, similar to the Farming allotment system. You construct specialized animal enclosures in your Ranch estate, purchase or capture initial breeding pairs, and supply feed to harvest organic goods over time.

Synergies and Resource Flow
The loop connecting Hunting, Ranching, and crafting creates a self-sustaining cycle:
[Hunting (Active)] ────> Pelts & Hides ───┐
├───> [Beastcrafting] ───> Gear & Buffs
[Ranching (Passive)] ──> Milk & Meat ────┤
└───> [Cooking/Food] ────> Combat Sustain
- Feed Provision: Farming provides seeds and crops to feed your livestock.
- Organic Byproducts: Livestock produce manure and organic compost that boosts Farming yield multipliers.
- Food Preparation: Ranching dairy and meats directly feed the Cooking skill, unlocking gourmet recipes that provide massive healing bursts for tough boss encounters.
- Artisan Armor: Hunting pelts and Ranching hides combine in Beastcrafting to forge hybrid armor that balances melee defence with ranged evasion.
[!TIP] Always build the automated grain silo in your Ranch as soon as you reach level 40. Without automated feed distribution, your livestock will cease production if their food troughs empty during an extended 12-hour offline idle session. Check our Gathering Skills Priority Guide for early farming habits to maintain high grain reserves.
